Modern Farmhouse Classroom Tour

modern farmhouse classroom decor tour

I realized with all of this extra time at home during the quarantine that I had never shared a classroom tour with you all this year!  Oops!  This has been my favorite classroom design and layout yet.  I kept it modern and simple.  I cannot tell you how much I miss it!  Just looking at these photos makes me so sad, but I have to remember that there is so much to be thankful for.  :)

The walls were actually all lime green, and my parents helped my paint them a light grey.  That was a job!  I got rid of lots of things that I just don't use and it freed up so much space.  Having too much clutter or too many decorations can often times provide students with too much visual stimulation that can interfere with their ability to focus.  My goal with our classroom was to also provide small, intentional learning spaces around the classroom that students could easily access each day, including flexible seating options.  I will take you around my classroom so that you can see everything I included!

I have linked as much as I could for you all!  If there is something I left off, feel free to DM me!

This is the view from my door.  Just so you know, these were taken at the beginning of the year, so there is no student work anywhere.  We also have anchor charts at the front related to our current learning.  But once that anchor chart is no longer needed, I take it down to free up more space.  All of the printable decor came from my Modern Farmhouse Classroom Decor Resource.

When you walk in, I have this white Ikea shelf that holds student binders and my substitute teacher tub.  The gold baskets are for sight word books and any notes that they need to give to me.  I didn't take a photo apparently of our student mailboxes.  It's on the opposite side of the door and is just a white shoe organizer shelf.

To the opposite side of the door is our classroom library.  Student book bins are stored on the white Ikea shelf.  The books are organized by topic/theme.  Editable library labels are included in the decor bundle.

This may be the last year of the reading tent.  It has been a good one for the last four years, but it's on its last leg, literally.  ;)  I keep reading buddies in the wire laundry basket, along with extra pillows.  The rug is from Ikea.

The We Are Family bulletin board is where I hang pictures of students' families.  This is a great activity for building community at the beginning of the year when students bring them in and share.  All of the teacher supplies and books that I use frequently are stored on this shelf by my desk.  The drawers beside it contain all of my materials used for each month.

My teacher desk sits in the corner.  The snake plant there is a great starter plant if you are looking to add some to your classroom.  It's great for purifying the air!

On the calendar bulletin board, I printed students' names on cardstock and hung them on the ribbons according to their birthday month.  All of the shiplap paper you see here is from Amazon.

These are the most popular flexible seating items in my classroom!  These pillows look like actual tree stumps.  I grabbed these on Amazon.  This little Ikea table is where we keep our iPad.  Students can sit around the table together to listen to a story or play a game.  I use this splitter for multiple students to plug in their headphones.

This is the board at the front of my room where I hang anchor charts that are in use.  This was a green chalkboard that we painted with black chalkboard paint.  I know someone is going to ask, so just letting you know that the Reading Stamina Tracking Chart can be found HERE.

These storage shelves from Ikea have been the best investment.  I keep our most frequently used math manipulatives and our guided math center tubs here.  I have a manipulatives manager who passes them out when needed.  They are also there for easy access whenever my students need them during centers or learning activities.

This is our carpet/meeting area.  The shag carpet can be found HERE.  This was the best price I could find for one this size (7x10).

My easel is the one from Ikea.  I love how light it is, so that I can move it as needed.  It has a whiteboard on the back.  The Classroom Promise poster can be found HERE along with all of my Back to School Anchor Charts.

These book ends are the cutest!  I found them at Hobby Lobby and use them to hold our current read alouds.

Past the carpet area is the word work center.  I hang weekly words in the pocket chart and our Interactive Phonics Anchor Charts on the bulletin board.  Next to it is the Calm Corner.

Behind my teacher table is this shelf in which I hold all of my small group materials.  The bins are from Target and Dollar Tree.  The magazine bins on top are from Big Lots and hold all of my materials for the week needed for whole group instruction.

Underneath the windows is this beautiful air unit.  ;)  I keep these monthly bins for all of my picture books.  These bins were found at Hobby Lobby.

I posted our daily schedule here, but now it holds our Early Finishers Choice Board.  Once they got the hang of our schedule down, I changed it out.

This is my one and only storage cabinet.  I keep room transformation materials in here, along with extra read alouds and professional books.

The succulents were made from green cardstock using this tutorial.  They were a little time consuming but well worth it.  The ones in the tutorial were smaller, so I just eyeballed the design and made them larger.

I went to tables this year, rather than student desks.  I lowered the two at the front at kept the two others regular table height.  Underneath the two lower tables are black shag rugs.  These are favorites!  The other two tables have chairs and stools.  I rotate the groups at the tables each week, so that everyone has a different type of seat each week.

The baskets above my sink area hold all of our student supplies.  These floating shelves are from Ikea.

Along the back wall of my classroom is my writing center.  These are just two small Ikea tables put together.  Students mostly just grab what they need and go somewhere in the room to write with their writing desk folders.

We have four student computers at the back of the room.  I put fabric around all of my tables for extra storage space.  Above the tables are clips where I hang student work, and above that is the word wall.

That wraps up the tour!  Again, all of the printable decor is from my Modern Farmhouse Classroom Decor Bundle.  As I am sure you can see, I love shopping Ikea for furniture!  It's durable, easy to clean, and very affordable.  I just wish we had one closer to Nashville!

If you have any questions, feel free to reach out.  So far, our state has not closed schools for the rest of the year as of now.  I am really hoping I can come back to this classroom one more time with my students, but I am afraid that might not happen.  I have learned not to take what we do for granted and to cherish every moment spent within the four walls of my classroom.  I hope this room brought joy to my students in the short time we got to spend here.  I know it did for me.
