Happy New Year and a Countdown to Telling Time!

Happy New Year, friends!  I love New Year's Eve!  We always have family over to ring in the new year.  We sit around and talk and eat, and eat some more!  I thought I would share a little bit of our night before I share what we are doing with time next week.

This was my table in the dining room.  I used lots of clocks, party decor, and mercury glass.  The fabric on the table was a cute find at Hobby Lobby.

These little plates are just darling!  My sister found them on eBay and knew we had to have them.

It was freezing that night, so I set up a mini-hot chocolate bar.  I got this heart marquee on clearance at Target so I thought it went with the Baby It's Cold Outside theme.  It was only $7!!!

We also did mock champagne.  It's so good!  You just mix equal parts chilled ginger ale and white grape juice.

We go back to school Monday, so I have started thinking about what we are going to do next week.  Since the New Year is all about time and clocks, that's what we are going to be learning about in math!

I will post more about it next week so you can see the unit in action.  It touches on telling time to the hour, half-hour, and in five minute intervals.  It's geared mostly towards 2nd grade students.  If you need a math unit for next week, you can find it in my TPT shop.  I will post my visual plans on Sunday, so you can see how I'm incorporating it into our math block.

Here is the fun little craftivity we will be making.  The template is included in the unit.

I searched the internet for some cute anchor charts to make, too.  It's so important to provide those when practicing telling time.  It's a hard concept for them to grasp, sometimes.  Here are some good ones I found.

I like how this one from School is a Happy Place has all the time related vocabulary words they should be familiar with.

This time chant from First Grade Wow is really fun, too!  We are all about some chants!

This one is really great, too!  I love the steps for students to follow.  I found this on Pinterest but couldn't track down the original source.

And we do lots of songs found on YouTube.  I will be back soon to share with you how it's going.  The Countdown to Telling Time unit is on sale until Sunday, so be sure to grab a copy!  Happy New Year!
