I just wanted to drop in tonight to share some pronoun fun!  Pronouns are one of those things that aren't real exciting to teach, so I have been on the lookout for some fun resources to get my students excited about using pronouns. We love to sing in my classroom!  These are some really great songs that teach what pronouns are and are great for introduction. According to our pacing guides, we typically spend about a week on each grammar skill.  There are so many great resources out there for pronouns, but I was having trouble finding resources that fitted my classroom's needs just right.  So, I decided to start making mini, no-prep packs to go along with whatever skills we were learning.  I spend so much time prepping for every other subject, that something just had to give.  I needed something quick, easy, and fun for each day of the unit.  And I needed the unit to last for about 5 days.  This is what I came up with for my first mini-pack all about Pronoun...
Last week, we celebrated being 100 days smarter!  It was the 100th day of school, which is so hard to believe that the year is more than halfway over!  After our reading block was over, we did all things 100!   We always make these sweet little ladies and gentlemen!  {I am not even sure whose original these idea these were, since they're everywhere now!}  This is one of the funniest things we do all year!  I just love reading what they come up with! Cara Carroll has the cutest 100th Day Freebie , so we used those stations for our math block.  They were super easy to prep!  We didn't have time to do all of them, so I adapted it down to five stations.  I have to say that even second graders had a blast with those stations!  They giggled and laughed, and they didn't want to stop playing! These were a couple of the books we read.  We also read 100 Snowmen , which was super cute! I rotated these posters around to eac...
Last week was all about polar bears in second grade!  We had so much fun learning tons of facts about these amazing creatures! My students needed to work on asking and answering questions while reading, so that's what I decided to focus on while studying polar bears.  I want to make sure they know how to stop and check for understanding while reading informational text.  We began by generating questions about what we what to learn in our study. To build some background knowledge, we read this big book together.  We also covered some vocabulary that we would be covering in the texts we would be using during the unit. We sorted our questions under each of the headers below before reading our main text for the week.  We also came up with more questions before diving into the text.  Don't be afraid to do lots of modeling when it comes to generating questions!  They need this extra support early on.   Our reading series came with a classroom set of ...
